      • A presentation made to the Principal, Mrs. Stacia Austin, by Head boy, Kamari Crichlow. Through Kamari's initiative Keely Enabling and Assisting Charity, donations were made by parents, students and teachers of The Ellerslie School's sixth form. 

      • The First Year Awards Ceremony

      • Celebrating the achievements of our First Year students.

        The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of awards. The Principal, Mrs. Stacia Austin presented the award for the ‘Overall Top Boy and Girl.' This award was received by Kai Lovell and Marilyn Gill, for Top Boy and Top Girl respectively. After the presentation of awards, Mrs. Melissa Smith presented Mr. Fabian Gittens with a special token of appreciation.

      • A donation of care packages from the Black Rock Seventh Day Adventist Church aimed towards assisting our Ellerslie School students experiencing financial challenges at this time.

      • BOLT Program

      • The launch of Barbados Online Learning & Teaching (BOLT) Project hosted by The Ellerslie School.

        The ceremony commenced with the playing of the National Anthem. Project Development Coordinator, Mr. Haniff Moore then introduced Sister Patsy Crichlow to give the invocation. Next, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology sent apologies and warm regards for her absence.

        Mr. Haniff then welcomed Principal of The Ellerslie School, Mrs. Stacia Austin to give her welcoming remarks. Mr. Moore later commended the students of The Ellerslie School, for their beautiful renditions made prior to the start of the evening’s program.

        Next, Miss. Tamar King, Director of Project Discovery Barbados, conducted a video presentation entitled “Successful Education and its Correlation to Project Discovery”. She outlined various program offered by the organization. These included:

        1. Community Service Learning: this program aims at encouraging students to be creative, motivating as well as to be problem-solvers. The program began with a total of (9) students, (6) instructors and two established chapters in Barbados and Trinidad and Tobago. The program for service learning include:
        1. Advocacy Research
        2. Scholarship Programs
        3. Seminars:{SEAS Program aimed at training students, teachers and parents} It requires (30) hours of study.
        1. Stress Management Program: this is a program for teachers and parents. It has seminars on Mental Health as well for students of the 5th and 6th forms.
        2. Entrepreneurship Program: this was sponsored by EY Barbados for students who want to start their own business. Students are trained in Marketing, among other areas. Over 50 training sessions took place so far.
        3. CARYFED: (11 forums, 6 territories, 280+ teachers and students). This was a summer program that requires 40 hours of community service in order to qualify and this must be first done within the participant’s home territory before being completed abroad.
        4. Scholarship Study Assistant Program: for students who gained scholarships or qualified for the CARYFED Program.
        5. Advocacy Research and Documentation Program: Documentation and Research Program withing the Caribbean Policy Development Centre.
        6. Innovation and Development Program: for persons (14-29) years old, who are a part of the project discovery program, as well as the Demo Farm Solar Dryer Project led by the Ministry of Education.
        7. Care Package Project: this project started in response to economic challenges. It has the following functions:
        • Providing basic school needs
        • Paying petty fees
        1. Cub Scout Project: this is an ongoing project since 2017. It started at the St. Stephen’s Primary and Deacon’s Primary Schools, in order to assist them with badge qualifications.
        2. BOLT Project: aimed at the internet connectivity solution for schools. Approximately (50%) of the contact time has been lost for both teachers and students, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The ongoing project is aims to provide (100%) internet connectivity to all, for blended teaching and “smart schools”.

        Miss. Jalisa Bannister and Miss. Destiny Walthrust of Project Discovery, outlined the BOLD Program from the students’ perspective. They highlighted some of the challenges faced as a result of the pandemic. Some of the challenges mention include: funding, getting permission to proceed with the project and balancing studies while working on the project. However, in October 2020, the students came up with possible solutions to the challenges faced. They then showed a brief video clip of the project they conducted at The Springer Memorial School.

        The students concluded their presentation by expressing heart-felt thanks to the principal and staff of The Ellerslie School, for allowing them to conduct the assessment within the school.  The project’s future plans: To continue to allow students to extend their creativity across Barbados to other schools, giving both students and teachers an opportunity to work more effectively and efficiently in the classroom.

        Chairman of Legacy Foundation Board of Trustees, Mrs. Maureen Grahaam was welcomed to the podium to give her remarks on ‘The History of Legacy Foundation’. Mrs. Graham outlined that Legacy Foundation is a registered charity that was established on 19th December, 2012; for the purpose of giving back to the society; to support projects and causes that have a positive impact on the community.

        The program concluded with the vote of thanks by Mr. Gregdon Griffith (Director of Project Discovery). Special thanks were extended to the Chairman of the Board of Management of The Ellerslie School, Principal Mrs. Stacia Austin, Principal of The Springer Memorial School, Legacy Foundation Chairman Sister Crichlow, Tamara King and Mr. King for facilitating. Thanks were also extended to the student directors of Project Discovery, Technical Advisors Mr. Alan Clarke and Mr. Moore, as well as other stakeholders involved.
